with my little eye, something beginning with… A.

Aye aye captain, it’s time to play I Spy. ‘I spy with my little eye something beginning with…’ is a children’s guessing game originating in the early 20th century. It remains a common pastime played by children – often initiated by adults to occupy bored children on car journeys and the like. One person secretly chooses an object that they can ‘spy with their little eye’ and the others take turns to guess the name of the object.

For small children spying, spotting and identifying things works easily with just ‘I Spy’…. an apple, a banana, a clementine, a date and so on.

With the bigger children we discovered that ‘I’ and ‘eye’ sound the same and drew a close up of an eye.

With the little ones we spied the letter A, with ambulance, apple and abacus. We made drawings of the things and talked about what they do.

Well done to all the spies this week: Francesca, Viola, Tito, Alice, Viola, Matteo, Sara, Giulia, and Arianna.
