FAN-tastic!

The sun is shining and temperatures are in the mid 20’s°c, so it must be summer, and time to find ways to cool down. We made some special hand fans to be used during the summer.

We made large fans with two sheets of heavy coloured paper/card. The first step was to give the fan a personality so we drew large faces with eyes, nose, cheeks, eyebrows, eyelashes, mouth (and some moustaches!).

We then taped the two sheets together and began fan folding.

This way the fan can be folded away and opened out when it gets hot!

Next we attached our paper fans to the perfect stem using one half of a pair of disposable wooden chopsticks, and for a vintage effect we used string to tie everything together firmly.

Making fans is fun, and this summer, ours will keep us very cool.
