Animated optical illusions.
Classes 1a and 1c began a new optical journey learning about animated illusions. We began by looking at some books, Gallop! and Swing! by Rufus Butler Seder, which employ a patented new technology called Scanimation. The pages of the books bring animals and sport to life with art that literally moves. It’s impossible not to flip the page, and flip it again, and again, and again.
This was followed by setting to work on our own optical animated art. Equipped with optical photocopies, permanent markers, acetate sheets and butterfly pins, we made two types of animation, one based on circular motion and the other in the form of a star.
The results are spectacular, fun to use and share! Turn them around again, again, and again.
