The snowman, a frozen fantasy!
The snowman featured as the central character of a January workshop with a group of infants, age 4, at the Asilo Nido dei Girasoli. So, here’s a little bit about him…
The Snowman began life as a children’s picture book without words by English author Raymond Briggs, and was first published in 1978. An animated film followed and is often watched by all the family over the Christmas break in the UK. In 2012 a sequel, The Snowman and The Snowdog arrived and was created to mark the 30th anniversary of the original short film.
In our workshop we watched the original film, looked at the picture book, and made fingerprint snow using silver ink, on handmade snowman paper plates. The snowman smiles with his woolly scarf and hat, tangerine nose and coal eyes. We had a wonderful time playing with this beautiful childhood fantasy.
Goodbye Snowman, and see you again next year!
