tweetkids workshop: facefood

facefood1

Today we played with fresh fruit and vegetables to make facefood! We talked about fruit and vegetables, our favourites, and the ones we turn our noses up at..we chatted about colours and shapes, and then started the chopping process.

The children were free to choose the ingredients and whether to chop or not! We added some mediterranean touches such as olives and dry pasta for special touches such as eyelashes and earrings. Here are some of the mouth watering results:

After playing with potatoes, tomatoes, cucumber, carrots, onions, kiwis, apples, pears, bananas, clementines, and a pineapple, we watched I Will Not Ever Never Eat a Tomato based on the book by Lauren Child and featuring Charlie and Lola. This is an especially imaginative episode with Charlie using his wonderful ingenuity to get Lola to eat everything from peas to mash potato by giving them new names and origins, such as green drops from Green Land and cloud fluff from Mount Fuji…

The workshop was inspired by innovator and food designer Marti Guixe and Face Food: The Visual Creativity of Japanese Bento Boxes by Christopher D Salyers…and our faces were made by Arianna, Gabriele, Viola, Sara, Lorenzo, Ruben, Erica and Giulia.
